Wrecks and associated debris can cause severe damage to dredging equipment or preclude the driving of piles. Geophysical techniques offer cost-effective solutions for the accurate 3D mapping of large buried and not buried obstructions (wrecks, wreck parts, pipes, cables, dumping sites, etc.).
In addition to the presurvey, G-tec also provides monitoring services during salvage, resulting in much more targeted and efficient operations.
The detection of unknown objects as well as the accurate positioning of known obstructions and possible surrounding items is realized using a combination of different surface, subsea or borehole techniques.
Acoustic techniques like side scan sonar and high resolution multibeam echosounder are fast and accurate where the wreck lies on the sea bottom, but become unefficient as the wreck or its scattered parts are partially or totally buried. In this case, magnetometry/ gradiometry is the most efficient technique.
